Democrats Prep For Last Gubernatorial Debate Before Election

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — The four Democrats seeking the party's nomination to take on Republican Governor Tom Corbett in the fall will meet for their last scheduled debate.

Monday night's hour-long debate is at Drexel University at 7 p.m. and will be moderated by KYW Newsradio Special Contributor Larry Kane.

In a campaign dominated by advertising messaging, Kane says this last debate is unique in one respect. All four candidates will be facing a statewide audience.

Businessman and first-time candidate Tom Wolf has carried a strong lead in polls after airing daily campaign ads on TV long before state Treasurer Rob McCord, former Clinton White House environmental adviser Katie McGinty and U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz.

Wolf's outspent his nearest competitor by millions, thanks to his personal wealth. Every Pennsylvania governor since 1974 has won a second term, but Corbett's political support remains stubbornly low.

Drexel says 22 radio and TV stations, including KYW Newsradio, are carrying the debate live. It's also being streamed live on Drexel's website.

The format will be wide open, the candidates will have a chance after each question to rebut and argue.

The primary election is May 20.
