PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The 3rd annual Love Your Park Week kicked off Saturday in Philadelphia.
The eight days of service projects, educational programs, family activities, and tours, take place at over 100 parks throughout the city in an effort to encourage residents to get out help keep parks clean and green.
"The important thing people need to know about Philly parks is that if they're not used, they are not going to get maintained," said Debi Richter with the Friends of Washington Avenue Green steering committee.
As part of Love Your Park Week, Richter helped put on a nature inspired Mother's Day craft project at the committee's green space.
"Today we are making tea blends for mom," Richter said. "We are also making wall hangings. They are all for mom."
Marlyn came out with her son, daughter and granddaughter to take part in the festivies.
I'm spending time with them, that's more important than going to the movies, going out to eat," she said. "This is nice quality time."
Her daughter Serena said this quality time with mom at the park can't be beat.
"It makes me feel good, it was a good feeling," she said. "It was something different. It was fun. It was a nice experience."
