LaSalle University Hires Dr. James Gallagher As Interim President

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - La Salle Unversity has recruited a familiar name to be its interim President.

His name is Dr. James Gallagher and if that tickles your brain cells, it might be because he headed what is now Philadelphia Unviersity for 23 years, including during its changeover from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. He takes over June 2nd, as Brother Michael McGinness retires.

"I have a clear charge. My charge is to be interim president and to be very helpful in the selection and recruitment of a new, talented man or woman who will follow Brother Mike, who is stepping down in June, and continue that great tradition," he said.

Gallagher says he's had friends and colleagues at LaSalle for decades and, when discussing the looming presidential vacancy, concluded that he could be helpful.

He says that while LaSalle is more liberal arts-oriented than Philadelphia University, they both have teriffic faculties committed to education.
