Hospitality Workers Gather To Celebrate National Tourism Week

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - National Tourism week runs through May 11th. To kick off the occasion, hundreds of Philadelphia hospitality works gathered on Broad Street on Tuesday.

With more than 90,000 people working in tourism and hospitality in the Greater Philadelphia area, tourism officials brought in Rocky and Ben Franklin among others to show the nation what's brewing in the City of Brotherly Love.

"There's a reason why 39-million visitors came to Philadelphia and the countryside last year." says Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of Visit Philadelphia.

She was one of hundreds in Philadelphia's tourism industry who posed for a group photo in front of the paint brush at PAFA to put a face on the people behind the city's robust tourism industry.

"There are people from all walks of life in the hospitality industry from housekeeping, to food service, to the hotels to the office workers to the retailers."

Philadelphia has been ranked third in the nation when it comes to historic sites. More on what to do in Philly at www.visitphilly.com
