Delaware Teacher Accused Of Having Sexual Relationship With Female Student

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware teacher has been charged after detectives determined he had a sexual relationship with a female student.

Authorities began an investigation in March when school officials told detectives there were allegations that Jerry Shorts, 27, had a sexual relationship with one of his students.

Detectives investigated the allegations, conducting numerous interviews and examining physical evidence. They found that Shorts and the 17-year-old student had four sexual encounters since October 2013.

Police arrested Shorts at his residence on May 2.

He has been charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $125,000 secured bail.
