13-Year-Old Del. Teen Charged For Not-so-Joyful Joyride

HARRINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- Delaware State Police say a 13-year-old boy took his father's car on a joyride that ended with a crash into a telephone pole.

The incident happened around 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Police say the teen took a 2006 Toyota 4Runner and was driving it west on Bloomfield Drive, just west of Cloverfield Lane, when it traveled off the north side of the road and into a ditch before striking a utility pole, shearing it off at the base.

The car then continued westbound for a short distance before coming to a stop in the road.

The 13-year-old was initially transported to Milford Memorial Hospital before being transferred to A.I. DuPont, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The juvenile was cited with Careless Driving, Failure to Remain in a Single Lane, No Insurance in Possession, No Registration in Possession and Driving Without a Valid License.
