Governor Corbett Signs Execution Warrant For Convicted Cop Killer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Governor Tom Corbett signed an execution warrant for the man who shot and killed Philadelphia police officer Charles Cassidy and then fled to Florida in 2007.
June 18th of this year is the execution date for Lewis M. Jordan, also known as John "Jordan" Lewis. FOP President John McNesby calls this a positive step.
"We just hope this moves quick and hopefully it comes to fruition," McNesby said.
It was Halloween 2007 when Jordan, on a robbery spree, was holding up a North Philadelphia Dunkin Donuts. There he shot Officer Chuck Cassidy who later died at the hospital. Jordan then fled, days later the manhunt ended in Florida.
Jordan now has the right to appeal. McNesby knows it's a long process but says all they can do is keep supporting the Cassidys.
"We would do anything to give their father and their husband back but that's not going to happen. That being said we're going to be by their side. Hopefully this will lead to some kind of closure down the line, whether it's months, weeks, whatever it may be," McNesby said.
This is Governor Corbett's 32nd warrant signed since taking office. But the last execution in the state took place in 1999.
