Study: Wide Hips, More One Night Stands?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Voluptuous ladies, prepare to be outraged: A new study claims that wide-hipped women are more likely to have one night stands and have had more sexual partners than their narrow-hipped cohorts.

The research, which was conducted by scientists in the U.K. and published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, looked at the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and hip width measurements of 148 women. Participants also filled out a questionnaire on their sexual history.

While the woman's WHR was not correlated with her number of one night stands, number of sexual partners, percentage of sexual partners who were one night stands, number of sexual partners within the context of a relationship per year sexually active, and number of one night stands per year sexually active, her hip width was.

Researchers also deduced that those who predominantly engaged in one night stands had wider hips than those who did not.

"Women's hip morphology has a direct impact on their risk of potentially fatal childbirth related injury," researchers say. "It is concluded that when they have control over this, women's sexual behavior reflects this risk and is therefore at least in part influenced by hip width."

In other words, since women with narrower hips historically had a higher risk of death during childbirth, they may be instinctively pickier about their sexual partners.

It seems, sadly, that hips really don't lie.
