3 Ordered To Stand Trial in Connection With Northeast Philadelphia Brawl

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Prosecution witnesses, including two of three stabbing victims, provide chilling testimony of a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood brawl in March.

KYW's Tony Hanson reports a woman and two men, one 17, have been ordered held for trial based on the testimony.

The prosecution witnesses say they were taunted and then attacked by another group of young people armed with knives and what turned out to be a replica gun. The three victims were stabbed multiple times, all of them suffered at least some wounds from behind.

But defense attorney Jack McMahon contends the evidence points to the alleged victims as attackers.

"Much bigger, much stronger, attacked them and were beating them on the ground. And that knives were pulled in self defense and I think all the wounds are indicative of being either on the ground and stabbing or stabbing someone to get them off somebody," McMahon said.

The actual stabbers have not been identified.

Charges have been dismissed against two other defendants. A hearing for two more has been delayed.
