Philadelphia Police Search For Missing 16-Year-Old Girl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing 16-year-old girl.

Nakyra Newson was reported missing by her mother after she did not return home from school on Monday.

Police say Newson's mother states she received a call from the 16-year-old at 3 p.m. that she was on her way home on SEPTA's Route 18 bus with a friend.

According to police, further investigation showed that Newson and a female friend were last together on SEPTA's Route 23 bus southbound at Broad and Erie where Newson exited the bus and her friend continued on the bus to her home.

Police say there has not been any activity on any of Newson's social media accounts and her cell phone has been turned off. She has never gone missing in the past.

Newson was last seen wearing black jeans, a grey and black sweatshirt, a navy button-up hooded sweater and carrying a cream-colored bag with puppies on it. She is 5'9", 285 pounds with blonde hair.
