Police: Suspect Sought In Rape At Delaware County Church

By Jan Carabeo

UPPER DARBY, Pa., (CBS) -- Police are working around the clock on this case.

They're all searching for this man, Troy Posey, who they believe is now on the run.

Police say he most recently raped a 19-year-old in a church, but he was actually already wanted for sexually abusing a minor years ago.

Troy Posey, 48, is no stranger to Upper Darby Police. They've been searching for him since 2012 when a 14-year-old came forward claiming he'd sexually abused her since the third grade.

He was her mother's boyfriend at the time.

"We entered him into the National Crime Information Center, we entered him into the Delaware County Police Alert System, we were not able to locate him," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

They thought he left the area until just a little more than a week ago.

That's when a 19-year-old woman told police she was raped inside Bethel Community Baptist Church.

She had missed the last train home and was just looking for a safe place to stay the night.

Based on her story, police suspected Posey.

"The physical description sounds like the guy we want. So they did a photo array and sure enough she picked him out," Chitwood said.

Posey worked at the church as a handyman and police say they had no idea about his past.

Investigators also say Posey had a job with an environmental company.

They believe he's now on the run after ditching work today and disconnecting his phone.

"We're coordinating our efforts because we think he will strike again and we do think he's dangerous and if he's not stopped if he's not apprehended, we certainly believe there will be other victims," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said.

Officials have notified police in neighboring communities about Posey as well as law enforcement in New Jersey and Delaware.

And new leads are already coming in.

"We believe this guy is a very, very dangerous guy. A very smooth operator and hopefully, we can get him off the street," Chitwood said.

Posey is facing a number of charges, the most serious is rape.

Just in that 2012 child sex abuse case he's facing more than 200 charges.

If you see him or know where he is call police.
