Addiction Therapist Finds Teaching Continuing Education Courses In Philadelphia Very Rewarding

Continuing education can be the key to staying up to date in your field. The fields of psychology and social sciences are constantly changing. Doctors and scientists come up with new theories every day, not to mention the benefits of medications, cognitive therapy and alternative approaches. Cali Estes received her undergraduate degree from Penn State University and master's degree from West Chester University. She currently helps addicts through her company The Addictions Coach, and continues to teach continuing education courses in her field of psychology.

Can you describe your duties as a psychologist?

"I am trained in all of the mental health disciplines, but I specialize in addiction. So I deal with sex addiction, drug and alcohol addiction, gambling addiction, food addiction and, of course, all of the horrible behaviors that go along with those. I deal secondly with shame and guilt, remorse, depression and anxiety."

How has education prepared you for your career in psychology and social sciences?

"My internship was very beneficial to me. I did my internship at State Correctional Institute at Rockview in Benner Township, PA, and it prepared me to deal with human behavior. I learned 90 percent of what I do in the field. I also learn a lot from my clients and how they react to life situations."

What continuing education have you participated in?

"I find continuing education very important. In fact, I have 25 certifications, and now I am teaching others how to do drug and alcohol coaching work as well."
