Police Investigate Possible Molotov Cocktail Found In Conshohocken

By Jim Melwert and Jenn Bernstein

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Authorities in Conshohocken are investigating a suspicious device found outside a store on Fayette Street.

An officer on routine patrol in Conshohocken spotted the device, it's described by police as a bottle with liquid in it. Sgt. Michael Connor says it could be interpreted as a Molotov cocktail, so the bomb squad was called in.

"They deemed the scene was safe for the police department to collect the materials left behind, and we're now investigating the incident for a potential criminal matter," he said.

The bottle was sitting on the sidewalk next to a backpack in front of a cigar shop along the 100 block of Fayette Street, the main drag here in Conshohocken, and quite a surprise to residents like Rick Reinhart:

"I'm blown away that this could happen in this neighborhood of all places," he said. "Never in million years would I think that, maybe like a drunken fight after the bars, that sounds normal, but to hear something about an explosive, that's crazy."

Four rental units above the cigar shop were evacuated, but the all-clear was given after about 30 minutes.

There was a large sign attached to the front of the building, critical of the owner of the shop, so police are investigating as a threat and a criminal matter.
