At Least Two Injured In Second Trenton Shooting

By Matt Rivers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It's been a violent couple of days on the 900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Trenton, New Jersey. At least two people were hit as gunfire erupted just after 4pm on Sunday.

The Mercer County Prosecutor's office says about 20 people were standing around a small memorial service for a shooting victim – a homicide that occurred just one day earlier on the same block (See previous story).

During the memorial service, someone opened fire, and at least two people were hit. One of the gunshot victims is in critical condition.

Interim Trenton Mayor George Muschal says things have been tense on the block all day long.

"I got a call from a councilwoman, and she said, 'George, you know, there's a lot of gang members hanging out on the corner,'" Muschal said. "I immediately, you know, said where, what's going on, and a short time later the calls started coming in that there was gunfire up here."

The mayor also said that he believes Sunday's shooting was retaliation for Saturday's homicide. "This is unacceptable," Muschal said.

Trenton police say it is too early in the investigation to assign a motive.

This is a developing situation in Trenton, and the investigation is ongoing.
