Gov. Chris Christie Calls For Razing Sandy-Damaged Buildings

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie has signed an order to allow the state to knock down homes and other buildings left dilapidated by Superstorm Sandy.

He set aside $15 million in federal storm aid to pay for the program as part of the executive order signed Friday.

Property owners who believe their structures should not be razed can challenge the decision to knock it down through an administrative process and also in court.

In his order, Christie says remaining damaged buildings pose health and safety risks.

It's not clear how many such buildings are still standing.
