Local Experts Push Message Of Natural Beauty During National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local medical facility wants men and women to focus this week on the message of true beauty that comes from within.

This is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week and experts at the Renfrew Center in Philadelphia are urging women to go without makeup Monday so the world can see their natural beauty.

Director of Nutrition Trish Carney says boosting self esteem and a healthy body image can help in the fight against eating disorders.

"We're really promoting helping people to really look within themselves," she says, "and promote greater understanding that really beauty comes from within."

This is the third year in a row that the Renfrew Center has urged women to face the world without makeup and, according to Carney, it's becoming more popular each time.

Men and women are urged to post an unedited selfie of their fresh washed faces on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using #barefacedbeauty.
