Local Filmmakers Get Renewed Home At The Roxy

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Film Society tonight presents Filmadelphia at the Roxy: February Showcase, but one of the stars of the show will be the refurbished theater itself.

Re-opened less than two months, the PFS at the Roxy, in the 2000 block of Sansom, is the antidote to the multiplex. Philadelphia Film Society executive director Andrew Greenblatt says the theater now boasts two state of the art screens.

"We brought the projection booths in and we brought the screen up a little to make it a more comfortable theater with incredible sight-lines and frankly the best sound throughout the city at 7.1 Dolby. No one else has that in the city."

The Roxy offers an array of movies from the commercial The Monuments Men to tonight's independent and festival films. The rehab has set the PFS back more than planned but also energized members.

"Absolutely, the existence of the PFS Theater at the Roxy is a big, big thing for memberships."

The theater will host an international children's film festival in June.
