Filmmaker D'Souza: 'There's A Big Target On My Back'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dom Giordano spoke with author and political commentator Dinesh D'Souza about the campaign finance charges that have been brought against him by the Justice Department Tuesday on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT.
"I've been warned there's a big target on my back…eight million people have seen [the film] '2016.' That just is a different level of visibility. That's a film that also happened to rattle our commander-in-chief," D'Souza said.
He said that he thinks the content of his first film, "2016: Obama's America," managed to get him placed on the Administration's enemy's list.
"They're saying I violated the election laws by giving $20,000 to a candidate that was running for Senate in New York. The candidate, Wendy Long, is a college friend of mine that I've known for 30 years, so they're not alleging that I had corrupt motive or intent, that I was trying to do any quid pro quo, they're just saying that I gave more than I was allowed to give, and as a result of that, I'm facing very serious prison time," D'Souza explained, adding that the charges seem excessive given the nature of the alleged crime.
Giordano and D'Souza believe the Justice Department's actions are overly harsh and that America's founding fathers would be appalled at what the two say is "a massive overreach."
"The Founders were scared of big government because they were scared of human nature," D'Souza said.
His next film, "Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream," will debut in July.
