Power Slowly Restored To Electric Customers Throughout The Region

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The temperatures are going to dip Thursday night into the single digits and many people are still without power, which means at least no heat and no light.

KYW's Kim Glovas reports PECO is predicting that most people will be back on line by Friday night.

PECO's Ben Armstrong says 715,000 customers were without electricity at some point during the ice storm. So far, 321,000 are back on line. But he says, restorations are sometimes a "one-step forward two step back" process.

"As we restore service to customers, there is the potential that we may have to take customers off line in order to safely restore all customers that are impacted by a particular outage. So, there are some customers who may not have their service interrupted, but may temporarily have their service interrupted so we can safely restore power to others."

Armstrong says crew members from as far away as Canada are coming across all manner of problems, including downed trees, downed power lines and downed branches.
