Intriguing Preseason Underway For Philadelphia Union

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Believe it or not we are just a little more than a month away from the 2014 Major League Soccer regular season.

The Philadelphia Union open the campaign on March 8th on the road, they will visit the Portland Timbers.

Philadelphia showed a lot of improvement from 2012 to 2013, but they still missed the postseason for the third time in the franchise's four years of existence.

You can't say the Union didn't work hard during the off-season to try and get better. They moved up on MLS SuperDraft day and grabbed the #1 overall pick, using it to select GK Andre Blake.

They also brought in veteran midfielders Maurice Edu, Vincent Nogueira and Cristian Maidana, who should prove to be critical pieces of the puzzle.

The team will train in Florida for the rest of the month, getting a four-day break from February 14th through the 17th. They are expected to wrap-up things up in Florida on March 1st or 2nd.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Kerith Gabriel of PhiladelphiaUnion.com to get a taste of what to expect over the next month of preseason.
