Wedding Planner: Event Insurance Might Be A Good Idea For Brides And Grooms

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With the cost of weddings on the rise, there is a growing trend among brides and grooms across the country and the Delaware Valley to purchase "special event" insurance.

Olivia Lee, who owns Precise Events in Wyncote, Pa., she says the reason for the insurance is not for fear of the groom getting cold feet and the bride's father being stuck with a large bill.

"Mostly they are nervous about the onslaught of vendors who are only web-based," she says.  "You know, you are picking someone that is online only -- they don't have a physical office."

Lee believes the insurance is completely worth it.

Christina Maddox, owner and founder of Heaven Sent Wedding Consultants, agrees and recommends it in the following cases:

"Outdoor weddings.  You never know -- weather is very tricky.  Also, I am a destination wedding planner for Mexico. So when you are doing destination weddings, with outdoor ceremonies on the beach, you absolutely want to take insurance."

Both say a wedding planner can help you ensure you choose reliable, reputable vendors, which can be a huge stress reducer.
