New Non-Profit Assists Those In Need Of Financial Aid

By Dr. Marciene Mattleman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When you ask kids from low income families about their plans for college, many don't believe they can make the tuition. They have little or no information about grants, loans and special scholarship awards. Now Community College of Philadelphia is offering a great free service.

Single Stop USA is a new national nonprofit organization with the intent of helping students build income security where they can receive access to benefits, screening and onsite assistance filing applications for federal, state and local services and resources.

Students throughout the nation have received an average of $2,000 in public benefits, services and tax credits through Single Stop. Within as little as 15 minutes using web-based software, a coach may find out the benefits for which a student may be eligible to help make educational and career decisions.
