Helpful Or Creepy? New App Can Tell You If Your Date Is A Sex Offender

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—Questioning that new guy or girl you're thinking of going on a date with? Well, there is an app for making that first date decision a bit easier.

The app, called NameTag, allows you to scan in your potential date's face and a facial recognition system will pull up his or her social networking info and will run it through criminal databases, including the National Sex Offender Registry.

"I believe that this will make online dating and offline social interactions much safer and give us a far better understanding of the people around us," the app's co-founder Kevin Alan Tussy told CNET.

Another plus, you can scan your ex (or current) significant other's face and get the details on any dating profiles they may be on.

But does it cross privacy boundaries?

Tussy explains to CNET, "It's not about invading anyone's privacy; it's about connecting people that want to be connected. We will even allow users to have one profile that is seen during business hours and another that is only seen in social situations."
