Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Avoiding Driving Hassles on Ski Vacations

By Jay Lloyd

MACUNGIE, Pa. (CBS) -- If there's a big winter getaway in your future but big-time snow is in the forecast, here's a way to do it with no problems.

Say you want to ski, dine, drink, and dance with the mountain crowd without worrying about snow-clogged roads.   How are you going to do it?  Try a slopeside hotel!

Once you reach the destination, the car stays parked until you are ready to return home.

There are three significant ski-in, ski-out hotels in Pennsylvania, all with first-class restaurants, great bars, and weekend entertainment.

One is as close as Berks County: Bear Creek Mountain Resort, in Macungie, Pa.   You can pole from the hotel's door to the ski lifts, and choose from four eateries and two bars -- casual to fine dining.

At Liberty Mountain Hotel, near Gettysburg, you can glide straight to the lifts, sup in any of up to ten eateries, enjoy three bars, and then dance the night away to local musicians.

The big daddy of Pennsylvania slopeside hotels is Seven Springs, in Somerset County (below).

This ten-story, sprawling hotel puts you right on the lifts.  Then, nosh and sip at your choice of fine dining rooms, a piano bar, a smorgasbord, a sports bar, and a trio of entertainment spots.

So, let it snow!
