Driver Sought In Deadly Delaware County Hit-And-Run

By Dan Wing, Matt Rivers

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- Police in Upper Darby are searching for a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run Sunday that left a 69-year old man and his dog dead.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says Richard Patterson was walking his pet poodle when they were both struck on Providence Road near Arbor Lea Road around 5:30 p.m.

"Apparently he was either drug, or thrown by the vehicle, at least 60 or 70 feet. He was dead on the scene, and the dog was also dead," Chitwood explained.

Chitwood says there are very few details available, and only one witness to the fatal accident.

The only description of the vehicle is that it is white or silver-colored, and may have been dragging the front bumper as it sped away east on Providence Road.

Investigators say they do not believe Sunday's bad weather had anything to do with this incident.

Authorities say they need more witnesses to come forward, and are asking anyone with information to call Upper Darby Police at 610-734-7686.
