South Philly Midnight Fun Run Will Help Usher in 2014

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If your New Year's resolution is to start running, why wait 'til morning?  You can do a 5K run at the stroke of midnight.

It's called the Philadelphia New Year's Midnight Run.  The party starts at 9pm at McFadden's restaurant-bar, at the ballpark in South Philadelphia.

"The race starts at midnight," says race director Pat McCloskey.  "It's actually just a fun race: we start and finish right at the Mike Schmidt statue at Citizen's Bank Park, the Phillies' stadium.   you can sign up starting at 9 o'clock (pm) at McFadden's."

Runners are encouraged to wear their ugliest tuxedo or tackiest bridesmaid dress, along with their running shoes.

There are cash awards for the top finishers, but you have to be dressed in evening wear to qualify for those prizes.

And $75 at the door covers an open bar and a sweatshirt for runners, while supplies last.
