Record Shops Hope For A Boost This Holiday Season

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Small music shops are hoping for a Black Friday bump in business.

As many hit the malls, some flocked to places like AKA Music in Old City, on the fall version of 'Record Store Day.'

"Kind of like the baby brother or baby sister to the Record Store Day in the Spring," employee Issac Williams said.

Even in the digital music age, Williams says there's nothing like vinyl and the personal experience of going to an indie music shop instead of a big box store:

"It is that. It's important to shoppers I think when you're doing something that's personal like music as opposed to washing machines."

Part of the specials at stores like AKA -- limited edition releases.

"Bob Dylan Side Tracks vinyl deluxe issue I guess for the first time," Williams said. "Nirvana reissue at like 45 rpms on vinyl. How the Grinch Stole Christmas on green vinyl."
