Case Of Meningitis Reported At Monmouth University

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A case of meningitis has been reported at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

The University's president sent a letter Thursday revealing an employee in the Controller's office is gravely ill and has been admitted to a hospital.

The president says the University has been in touch with officials from both the Monmouth County Regional Health Commission and the New Jersey State Department of Health.  Those officials, who are also in contact with the Center for Disease Control, are assisting the University's response to the situation.

Princeton University is dealing with a meningitis outbreak.  University officials decided Monday to make available a meningitis vaccine that hasn't been approved in the U.S. (See Related Story).
