Two Local Field Hockey Standouts Get One More Game

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – While the season is over for the city's college field hockey teams, two standouts are getting the opportunity to play in one more game.

Temple midfielder/defender Molly Doyle and Drexel midfielder/forward Lindsay McArdle have both been selected to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Senior Game on Saturday, November 23 in Virginia Beach.

Doyle, who went to High School at the Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, was second on the Owls with eight goals and 19 points this season. She was also a leader on a Temple team that finished 14-6, spending much of the year nationally ranked for the first time in a dozen years.

Molly Doyle Interview

"I was just talking to the other senior girls about the legacy that we left and how I think we really did change the program for the better," Doyle tells KYW Newsradio. "I think we have a lot of alumni to thank for that, they did a phenomenal job in building the program and then I think we came in at a great time, a turning point if you will, for the program. And I think we kind of just took advantage of our opportunities and knew that we had a really great team and wanted to do well this year."

McArdle, a Cardinal O'Hara product, was second in goals for Drexel with six this season and she helped the Dragons to 13 wins. She also was a bit surprised to get picked for this team.

Lindsay McArdle Interview

"Just because you never expect any recognition for anything like that," McArdle tells KYW Newsradio. "It's an honor and I think a testament to show our team how well they performed."

So what are they most looking forward to about this game?

"I think just representing Temple as a university and playing with pride for my university," Doyle says. "I think we really had a statement year this year and being able to play in the game with a lot of girls that we competed against this year is definitely a huge honor and something that I'll remember for the rest of my life."

"What I'm most excited about is to play with a bunch of girls from the other teams," McArdle says. "Field hockey is such a small community so you kind of know everybody. So being on the national indoor team, I play with a bunch of other girls from other schools so I'm hoping to be on the same team as one of them."

It should also be noted that Temple's Mandi Shearer has been selected as an alternate for the Senior Game.

The NHFCA Senior Game is slated to get underway at 2:15pm on Saturday down in Virginia Beach.
