Three New Breeds At Dog Show

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There will be three new AKC canine breeds debuting this week at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia's National Dog Show in Oaks, PA. They are the Chinook, the Rat Terrier and the Portugese Podengo Pequeno (photo, puppies).

The Chinook, whose name means 'warm winter winds' is an affectionate, playful and athletic dog possessing power and speed, bred in New Hampshire as a sled dog. This breed is listed under Working Breeds.

The Rat Terrier, in the Terrier Group, is an intelligent, alert and loving companion dog with the capability of hunting rodents and small game.

The Portugese Podengo Pequeno is in the Hound Group and related to the Pharoah Hound, Ibizian Hound and Basenji. They are loving dogs known for their small size, erect ears and hunting ability. They possess two types of coats, smooth and wired. The wired coats provide the bearded muzzle.
