Health: New Treatment That Could Revolutionize The Cosmetic Industry

By Stephanie Stahl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A first-of-its-kind treatment that's said to revolutionize the cosmetic industry has arrived in the Delaware Valley.  3 On Your Side Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl has more.

We've heard from several doctors who are excited to be getting a new tool to fight the signs of aging.  This plumps up sagging cheeks in a way that no other filler has been able to do before.

Joan Brand brushes on makeup to hide what she doesn't like, her aging, sinking cheeks.

"We've tried fillers and nothing seemed to take away the sagginess and the falling," said Joan.

So she's turning to Juvederm Voluma XC.  It's a newly FDA approved filler for age-related volume loss in the cheeks.

"This is an exciting thing," said Dr. Steven Davis, a New Jersey Cosmetic Surgeon.  He is one of the first in the area to have Voluma.

He starts with a numbing cream and then he injects the hyaluronic filler in to the cheeks.  It plumps up under the skin.

"When we inject this product it is actually going to cause more of a lifting affect than it is to just fill a void," said Dr. Davis.

The results are instant, and doctors say they can last for two years.

You can clearly see a difference in Joan's before and after pictures.  And she's thrilled with the results.

"I love it.  I love it.  There's no more of that scrunchy stuff that makes you look old," said Joan.

The injections for Joan took less than a half hour, and she says it didn't hurt.  The filler does have lidocaine in it, to minimize pain.  For her, there was no bleeding or bruising, but doctors say that can happen.

The cost can range between $600 to $1,600, depending on how much product is needed.
