Former Senior Home Care Employee Allegedly Stole From Elderly Patients

LESTER, Pa. (CBS)—Tredyffrin Township Police arrested a former female employee of Surrey Services for stealing items from elderly patients.

Police launched an investigation into Veronica Patterson, 51, after receiving reports of theft  from multiple elderly victims.

The investigation revealed that she had stolen numerous jewelry items and silver from elderly patients since the summer of 2012. Patterson is also accused of pawning the items she stole.

The value of loss to the victims is about $60,000.

Police believe the thefts were fueled by Patterson's underlying addiction to prescription medications and cocaine.

Patterson was arrested on Wednesday, November 6th and charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

Her bail was set at $5,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 13th.
