Philadelphia Police Lieutenant Charged With Assaulting Girlfriend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A lieutenant with the Philadelphia Police has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6th, Philadelphia police lieutenant Marques Newsome, a 16-year veteran of the department, was arrested for an incident that occurred on Oct. 27th in the 1300 block of North 57th Street.

Newsome, who was off duty at the time, allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend that ended with him assaulting her with a bottle.

Newsome is now facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, possessing an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person, and stalking.

Police department officials say he has been suspended for thirty days with intent to dismiss.
