18-Year-Old Dies After Being Dragged 100 Feet By Minivan; Sister Faces Charges

Elsmere, Del., (CBS) – Police say an 18-year-old man has died after he was struck by a minivan and dragged about 100 feet Tuesday afternoon in Elsmere, Delaware.

Police say his sister, 19-year-old Sheila Martinez, is facing several charges.

New Castle County paramedics responded to the area of Bungalow and Tamarack Avenues in Elsmere Gardens for the report of a pedestrian struck.

They found the victim, identified as 18-year-old Jesus Martinez, had been struck by a minivan.

Officers say his sister allegedly hit him, dragging him 100 feet, before getting out and running from the scene.

Responding crews worked to rescue him, who was trapped under the vehicle.

Paramedics treated him for head, internal and serious extremity injuries.

He was flown to Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police helicopter where he was later pronounced dead.

Sheila Martinez has been released on bail. She is facing several charges including Manslaughter.
