By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There's is new ticket-selling leader at multiplexes. This weekend, it was Grandpa defying Gravity.
After three weeks on the first-place perch, the high-flying hit, Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, fell to second place.
That's because the new hidden-camera prank comedy, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, with Johnny Knoxville, the fourth entry in the Jackass franchise, grabbed the top spot, earning an estimated $32-million on its debut weekend.
Gravity was second with another $20-million, bringing its cumulative total to just under $200-million.
The holdover Captain Phillips, with Tom Hanks, was third with $12-million, while the new crime thriller, The Counselor, with Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, and Brad Pitt, was fourth with a total of $8-million.
Overall, for the first time in over a month, industry-wide totals were ahead of those on the counterpart weekend last year.
