
TORONTO (AP) — Allan Stanley, a Hall of Fame defenseman who won four Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs during a 22-year NHL career, has died. He was 87.
The NHL confirmed his death on its website.

During his 10 seasons with the Leafs, Stanley formed a fierce defensive tandem with Tim Horton. Among his four Stanley Cups was one in 1967, Toronto’s last title. He finished his career with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1968-69. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.

Nicknamed “Snowshoes” for his ponderous skating style, Stanley had 100 goals, 333 assists and 792 penalty minutes over 1,244 regular-season NHL games.
