Alumni Chip In For New Gym At Delco High School

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (CBS) - Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield, Delaware County, will hold a ribbon-cutting Saturday on its refurbished gymnasium -- something that's been a labor of love for many alums.
O'Hara is marking its 50th anniversary and its gym had been showing the wear and tear of all those decades.
Alumni cast a net for donations and Vince McLaughlin, a 1989 grad who calls himself a small part of the effort, says funding is still needed to upgrade the locker room and install an elevator:
"We have been able to do all of the upgrades to the gymnasium itself. The floor has been stripped, refinished and sealed. The backboards are in. There are new scoreboards. The stands are absolutely gorgeous. It looks like a brand new gym. It's amazing."
McLaughlin says the gym holds a lot of memories for those who've already passed through O'Hara's halls, and he hopes its sparkling new look helps promote the school to the next generation of students.
