Verizon Tests Same-Day Delivery In Philadelphia

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A new program that one of the big cell phone companies is testing in Philadelphia promises to put a new device in your hands just hours after you place the order.

When overnight shipping just doesn't cut it, and you don't have time to stop at a store, Verizon is offering same-day delivery in Philly, with an eye on expanding to more cities.

To be eligible for same-day delivery, the order has to be in by 10am to get to you by 7pm, and the item has to be in stock.

The courier fee is $20, as opposed to a $15 charge to get it next-day.

Verizon cites a study that shows 18-to-34 year-olds who make six figures, a group called 'affluent millenials', would be all about this service.

The company says it's available for "169 zip codes" in and around Philadelphia through verizonwireless.com.

Amazon and Walmart have offered certain products for same-day delivery here and in other parts of the country.

More information can be found on Verizon's web site.
