A Rubber Duck Dash To Raise Money For Dog Kennel Facility Repairs

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's a ducky way to help a Philadelphia animal shelter raise $40,000 to replace a failed kennel drainage system.

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia ("ACCT Philly") needs to get a new drainage system for a row of dog kennels at its facility in North Philadelphia. So an effort to get the public involved is underway.

ACCTPhilly's Susan Cosby says a duck dash is going to be held Saturday, where thousands of individually numbered rubber ducks will be released into the Love Park fountain.

"It is $5 per duck, and we have a bunch of packages where people can get extra ducks for a discount," Cosby explains.

And if your duck is picked out of the flock, you could win a great prize.

"Our grand prize is a cruise for a five night stay to Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico or Europe, or they can take the option of $2,500 in cash," Cosby says.

You get a duck by making your donation online, and you don't have to be present to win.
