WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden won’t be coming to New Jersey to campaign for Democratic Senate candidate Cory Booker.

The White House says Biden had to cancel Friday’s appearance because of the partial government shutdown.

Booker is competing against Republican Steve Lonegan for the seat left vacant by the death of Democrat Frank Lautenberg.

The special Senate election takes place on Oct. 16.
