Old City Bar Offering A Number Of 'Shutdown Specials'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In light of the partial government shutdown, an Old City restaurant is trying to help both residents and tourists make the best of a bad situation.

Paul Dellevigne, the lead bartender at Red Owl Tavern, has come up with some "Shutdown Specials" that dispirited tourists and angry government workers can take advantage of.

The bar and restaurant, which is located across from Philadelphia's Independence Mall in the historic district, is offering two $6 cocktails. There's "The Scofflaw," made of rye, dry vermouth, lemon and grenadine and "The Liberty," a mix of Applejack, light rum and simple syrup.

Beers are also on special, with Yards' Thomas Jefferson Tavern Ale and 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA going for just $4 each.

Red Owl says it will run the specials for however long the shutdown lasts – welcome news for disgruntled patriots across the city.
