Veteran Broadcast Reporter Steve Porter Dies At 73

By Brandon Brooks

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We have lost a piece of our history here at KYW Newsradio.

Steve Porter, the very first anchor on KYW when we went all news 48 years ago, has died at the age of 73.

After helping launch the all-news format here, Steve went to New York and did the same thing for our sister station, WCBS.

Later he covered the White House during the Reagan and Bush Administrations, then successfully did what many big-market talents dream of - he moved to a small town, bought part of a radio station, and continued playing his trade there near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

But to us, he'll always be the voice that launched all news all the time.

Steve Porter gone at 73.
