Officer Shot In Coatesville In Line Of Duty

COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - Police say an officer was shot late Saturday night in Coatesville, Chester County.

According to police, at around 10:30 pm on Saturday night, Coatesville police were called to the scene of a hit and run. A marked Coatesville police car eventually stopped the fleeing vehicle at 3rd and Kersey streets.

Police say the driver of the vehicle resisted arrest, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, a Coatesville police officer suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg.

The officer was taken to Brandywine Hospital, is said to be in "good condition," and the wound is said to be non-life threatening.

According to police, Michael Vega, 43, of Coatesville is being charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, DUI and other related charges. Bail has been set at half a million dollars cash.
