Miley Cyrus: Best Summer Ever Spent In Philadelphia

By Nicole Brewer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The October issue of Rolling Stone magazine shows the Miley Cyrus many love to hate.

From her cropped cut to that wagging tongue, it's the same look that got people talking while she was "twerking" at the MTV Music Awards and on display in her new video for song 23.

"As much as she seems out of control, she's in control of all of this stuff," said Johnathan Ringen, Asst Editor of Rolling Stone.

Stuff that includes a newfound image she tells Rolling Stone started here in Philadelphia, while ex fiance Liam Hemsworth was shooting a new movie.

Philly's celebrity photographer HughE Dillon isn't surprised Miley found inspiration on South Street, after fan disruptions forced her from the set.

"When that happened, she had to go out and explore the city and that's when she discovered South Street and Philly Aids Thrift."

The owners of the second hand store say she stopped by a few times and even admired their stuffed animal tree.

"There were stuffed animals in her [VMA] performance, so we thought that maybe we rubbed off on her a little bit," said Christina Kallas-Saritsoglou, Manager of Philly Aids Thrift.

Philly is where she cut her hair and bought her first chain, Cyrus telling Rolling Stone, "I just started feeling my own vibe. I bought a pair of doc martens. I shaved my head... Just blending in."

All part of what she calls the best summer ever, spent right here in Philadelphia.
