South Philadelphia Senior Expo Draws Hundreds of Active Elders

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A "senior expo" drew hundreds of attendees this morning in West Philadelphia.

The "Navigating Life after 50 Expo," hosted by state senator Anthony Williams at the Mercy Eastwick Wellness Center, is designed to bring those who provide services to senior citizens to the folks they serve.

"I think this is wonderful! I'm enjoying myself here, and I think they should have more things like this," said Martha.  "You find out a lot information that you didn't know before coming to events like this."

Cathy agrees.

"There is a lot of information here, but not so much that it is overwhelming, and people take their time and are very pleasant," she said.

Ronda Liggins-McCoy, director of constituent services for Williams' Delaware County office, says today's seniors aren't a rocking-chair-bound bunch.

"They are active and like to participate and do fun things," she said.

To demonstrate, a group of senior took part in dancing "The Electric Slide" in the parking lot of the wellness center (below).
