PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man drove himself to the hospital after being shot multiple times while sitting in his car in West Philadelphia early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened just after midnight near 62nd and Locust Streets.

Police say a 38-year-old man was shot three times, once in the chest, stomach and shoulder, and then drove himself to Mercy Hospital for help.

Authorities say the man was sedated and later transferred to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police say the man's car was found in front of Mercy Hospital with several bullet holes in the driver's door and window.

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the shooting.
