Affordable Housing Advocates Challenge Plans To Keep Woodcrest Country Club A Golf Course

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- Announced plans to keep the Woodcrest Country Club in Cherry Hill as a golf course are being challenged by a group that fights for affordable housing in New Jersey.
The Fair Share Housing Center is challenging a state decision to exclude the club from Cherry Hill's sewer plan. Such an exclusion would preclude putting housing on the site.
"Cherry Hill has agreed, as recently as 2009 and 2011, if this land becomes available, it's going to use the land make sure that the developers use the land to meet part of its housing obligation," says Kevin Walsh, an attorney for Fair Share.
Camden County Freeholder Jeffrey Nash would beg to differ.
"We cannot have additional, high density development in what is already the biggest intersection and the busiest intersection in Cherry Hill Township," Nash says.
The developer who bought the club has not responded to calls for comment, but indicated at the time of sale that the golf course would remain open.
