Cops: Woman Left 4 Kids In Car While She Shopped At Cherry Hill Mall

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) – A South Jersey woman was taken into police custody after investigators say she left four young relatives in a car while she was shopping at a popular mall.

The incident happened at about 1 p.m. on August 16th at the Cherry Hill Mall.

According to investigators, 33-year-old Derio Vega parked at the mall and left four children – ages 9, 8, 3 and 1 – inside a locked car with the windows down. Vega is the children's aunt.

Police were alerted and upon arrival, they found the four children in the car. Cherry Hill Mall security officers were able to track down Vega and escorted her to the car.

Vega was then taken into custody by the Cherry Hill Police Department and was charged with neglect.

Vega was released on a complaint summons and has a court date scheduled for August 27th.

Investigators say the children were found in good health.
