Police Officer Shot In Face Returns To Active Street Duty In Wilmington
WILMINGTON, Del., (CBS) – A Wilmington police officer who was shot in the face while conducting a traffic stop in February returned to active street duty Tuesday.
The Wilmington Police Department celebrated the return of Officer Justin Wilkers duty with a private ceremony at the police station Tuesday morning.
The 34-year-old officer was shot February 3rd during a car chase following a traffic stop (see related story).
Wilkers is a three-year veteran of the force.
Three Delaware men were charged in the shooting (see related story).
Wilmington police say Officer Wilkers, his partner Corporal Kevin Murphy, and Master Corporal Brian Witte received commendations for their actions on the day Officer Wilkers was shot. Officer Wilkers' shift, "E" Platoon, also received a distinguished unit citation for their actions.
