Search Continues For Infant Removed From Upper Darby Home on Sunday

By Brad Segall

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- Search crews are back in Lancaster County today, looking for a seven-month-old infant who was taken Sunday from a home in Upper Darby.

His mother's boyfriend is behind bars, charged with kidnapping and related offenses (see related story).

Pennsylvania state police and the FBI are involved in the search for the child, Hamza Ali, while 30-year-old Ummad Rushdi sits behind bars in lieu of $750,000 bail.

Police say the baby was last seen over the weekend at Rushdi's parents' home in Delaware County.

Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says the primary focus now is on finding the child:

"Here in Upper Darby we're trying to get enough probable cause to upgrade the charge to murder, so we're working very, very feverishly trying to put everything together."

Chitwood says Rushdi has been uncooperative, and they are reinterviewing the baby's mother.  He did confirm that Rushdi made statements to a family member that he killed the baby and buried the body.
